Forest County maintenance building project underway

Forest County commissioners reported Thursday that construction of the new county maintenance building is underway, but it is creating some parking headaches for the probation and sheriff’s departments.

“As the new building project progresses, there will be some inconveniences to the staff in the criminal justice building and we ask for everyone’s patience,” the agenda for Thursday’s commissioners meeting said.

The new building will house the maintenance department, storage space and office space.

Commissioner Norm Wimer said it is undecided which departments will occupy the offices.

“It’s been a slow project to get moving, but the framing is going up,” Wimer said. “The first floor will house the maintenance department and a record storage area. The second story will be tied into the bridge walkway, and (the second floor) is going to be office space.”

In other business Thursday, the commissioners approved a provider service contract between Western PA Cares for Kids in Brookville and Forest County Children and Youth Services. This contract is for participation in a multi-disciplinary investigative team approach and response to child abuse.

The contract is effective from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 this year at a cost not to exceed $4,000.

The board also approved a purchase of service agreement between Children and Youth Services and Family Care for Children and Youth Inc. for the provision of child welfare services. This agreement is effective July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019.

Commissioners also approved a $55,721.63 payment out of the 2016 Community Development Block Grant funds to Tionesta Borough for the first phase of the Elm Street water line project.

Commissioners will meet again at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.
