Seneca Rocks holding Allegheny National Forest program May 8

From staff reports

There are 154 National Forests in the United States, but only one is in the state of Pennsylvania. The Allegheny National Forest, covering over 500,000 acres or 801 square miles, is right in our backyard. It boasts two national wild and scenic river routes, a dam and reservoir, and two nationally designated wildernesses. For those of us lucky to live nearby, the forest offers hiking, biking, boating, camping, snowmobiling, fishing and more.

The forest has changed over time, and its history is a fascinating reflection of our approach to conservation and the science of forest management.

On Wednesday, May 8, Jenna Morgan of the U. S. Forest Service will present a program that will highlight the history of the Service, how the Allegheny National Forest came to be, and its current status. Her presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Clarion Free Library, 644 Main Street, Clarion and is free to the public.
