Hominy Ridge Lodge owners plan to rebuild

The owners of Hominy Ridge Lodge and Cabins in Cook Forest plan to rebuild the lodge that was destroyed in a fire last week.

“The cabins are still open. We lost the rental in the lodge,” Paula Pluta, who owns and operates Hominy Ridge with her husband, Andy, said Monday.

Pluta added that if any of their guests needed something she and her husband would be there as hosts.

A fire marshal from Punxsutawney state police who investigated the blaze said the blaze Thursday on Route 36 in Barnett Township, Jefferson County, originated in the front of the structure which housed a small store.

The exact cause of the fire wasn’t determined, the fire marshal said.

The lodge served as the Plutas’ residence and also contained a small store and rental unit.

“We are all safe, but we were displaced and have lost everything,” Pluta said. “We’ll stay in the cabins when they are available and in our RV while we rebuild this summer,” she added.

The fire was called in at about 7 p.m. Thursday, and Marienville fire chief Randy Parrett said the two-story lodge was a total loss. Parrett said at least one vehicle parked nearby caught on fire.

No one was hurt.
