Area students compete at Edinboro

From staff reports

More than 100 high school students visited Edinboro University on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 for the 2020 Pennsylvania Academic Decathlon Western Regional competition.

Following months of preparation, teams faced off in a series of 10 scholastic events, which included an interview, essay writing, speeches, exams and the ever-popular Super Quiz.

Students were tested in art, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science and social science surrounding this year’s theme, “In Sickness and in Health.”

“Edinboro University is honored to be hosting the competition again this year,” said Dr. Melissa Gibson, a faculty member in Edinboro’s communication, journalism, and media department who helped organize the event.

“Our faculty, staff, students and alumni have volunteered to be judges, and the campus is ready to host these talented young people, said Gibson.”

The two-day competition kicked off Friday, Feb. 7 and concluded with the awards ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Louis C. Cole Auditorium Memorial Hall.

Students from Clarion-Limestone High School, Karns City High School, and North Clarion High School were among the participants.

The top finishers will go on to compete in the state championship on March 13 and 14 in Souderton.
