A hearing that was scheduled Tuesday for an Oil City man arrested last week for allegedly beating up another man after two drug deals went sour was continued.

Court dockets don’t list a new hearing date for Jesse James Slater, 29, who is facing numerous charges in connection with a Jan. 10 incident in Clarion Borough.

Clarion Borough police arrived on Jan. 10 at 35 South Fifth Ave. to arrest Tiffany Wolfe, who had an outstanding bench warrant from the Clarion County probation office.

Officers said that when they knocked on the door, there was a delayed response and they allegedly heard noise coming from inside the apartment.

The officers realized several people allegedly fled from the back entrance to the apartment and boxes had been stacked in front of the door to make it look like no one left through the door.

Wolfe allegedly told Clarion Borough police chief William Peck IV that Slater and another man were the two who fled on foot. Wolfe allegedly said she assumes the two fled because they beat up a third man man the night before.

Wolfe allegedly said the reason they beat the man up was because she, along with Slater and the second man, met the third man near the elementary school to purchase methamphetamine.

The third man allegedly took the money and said he needed to go to his apartment to get the meth and he would be back, and Wolfe said the man never came back.

Later in the day, Wolfe allegedly set up a time to purchase marijuana from the third man, although Wolfe had no intention of going and sent Slater and the second man in retaliation to retrieve her money and steal the marijuana.

Wolfe allegedly said the two men lured the third man into a dark area near the Clarion University Public Safety Office. Wolfe allegedly said the two jumped the man and when they realized the marijuana was fake, they beat him up more.

State police trooper Tate Allison spoke to the third man and saw numerous injuries to his face and head.

When police asked the man what had happened that night, he allegedly made up a story but then told the truth of selling meth and marijuana. He allegedly admitted to police he didn’t return to deliver the meth and he ripped off Wolfe.

The man allegedly said that when Slater and the other man met him on the Clarion University campus, the other man punched him in the face and grabbed his phone out of his hand. Slater allegedly took the man’s wallet and continued punching and kicking him.

The man said a bag of marijuana was taken from him, and he allegedly admitted to police the bag didn’t contain marijuana but had kitchen seasoning purporting to be marijuana.

When the two men realized it wasn’t marijuana, they allegedly attacked the third man again.

Slater is charged with three counts each of robbery and conspiracy-robbery and single felony counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy-aggravated assault, along with several misdemeanors.

Slater is being held at the Clarion County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
