Forest School District outlines proactive steps as virus is monitored

From staff reports

Forest Area School District is monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and the potential for a pandemic in Pennsylvania.

The district announced Friday it will be engaging in some proactive steps. Those steps include:

– Students, staff and community are reminded about the importance of washing their hands regularly. Hands should be washed for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.

– All students and staff are reminded to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or by using their elbow if no tissues are available. If a tissue is used, it should be thrown in the trash.

– Students and staff are asked to stay home when they are sick with respiratory disease symptoms.

At the present time, these symptoms are more likely due to influenza or other respiratory viruses than to the coronavirus, but it is important to see a health care provider if their are any questions.

If a temperature accompanies the illness, there should be no return to school or work until the temperature has been normal for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

– Desktops and other frequently touched surfaces are being disinfected regularly and we will be sure that anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizers are available for teacher and student use.

– The school district will be monitoring student and staff absences due to illness and working in partnership with the Department of Health to report and respond to any concerns that may be related to the coronavirus.
