Forest primary ballot will feature GOP sheriff race

Petitions from candidates seeking to be on ballots in the May primary election in Forest County have been submitted.

One of the few contested races is for Forest County sheriff as William Carbaugh Jr. and Jason Bowen are seeking the Republican nomination. Joseph Schmader is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

Longtime sheriff Bob Wolfgang, who has held the position since 2002, is not seeking re-election.

No other countywide races are on this year’s primary ballot.

In Tionesta Borough, Republican Judith McDaid is unopposed on the GOP ticket as she seeks another term as mayor. She has been mayor since 2013.

No Democrats are listed on the ballot for the Tionesta mayor post.

Democrats Dennis O’Toole and Bernadette Holzer are on the ballot for Tionesta Borough Council positions.

Townships

Five of the eight townships in the county have candidates listed for supervisor. They are:

Barnett: Six-year term – John Marino (R), David Wilson (R); Four-year term – Joe Calla (R), John Marino (R); 2-year term – Adam Eck (D).

Green: Mark Wagner (R), Billy Kohl (R)

Howe: Steven Tachior (R)

Jenks: Edward Stoner Jr. (R)

Kingsley: Edward Conti Jr. (R)

No candidates will be listed on the ballots in Harmony, Hickory and Tionesta townships.

School boards

Two candidates will be listed on the ballots for Forest Area School District seats.

They are Timothy Korchak, who filed as a Republican for one of two seats in Region A, and Michael Oliver, who crossfiled as a Republican and Democrat in Region B.

No school board candidates will be on the ballot for Region C.
