CLARION – One of the major items of discussion at the recent Clarion County Board of Commissioners’ meeting was a proposal regarding access to the new Clarion County YMCA.

The Y is in the process of building a new facility which will be constructed behind Mayfield Road near Clarion Oaks Golf Club.

The YMCA is applying for a grant through the state to create a roadway and walkways for pedestrians in the area of the building’s future site.

The roadway would create a straighter path from the intersection of State Route 68 and Mayfield Road.

Currently, travelers destined for Mayfield Road must go through the light at the intersection, turn left onto United Drive past CoGo’s and Kwik Fill and make two sharp rights.

The Y’s proposal is to create an extension off BP Drive and connect it to Mayfield Road. The connection would create a smoother transition from the intersection to the eventual building.

The Clarion County commissioners approved a motion to support the Y’s proposal for the grant. No cost estimate was given.

Also discussed at the meeting was movement of a Redbank Township polling location.

Formally located at Shannondale Grange Hall, it will inhabit a permanent address at Zion Lutheran Church. The church is located at 3117 Pine Run Road in Mayport.
