The Clarion County Literacy Council on July 29 received a $5,000 donation as Clarion Ford President Tracie Kriebel presented with Marion Halgren, the student tutor coordinator of the Literacy Council with a check from the dealership.

Halgren said the donation will be used to further the Literacy Council’s goals.

“Donations provide free support to adults to improve their reading, writing, math, English as a second language, and GED preparation,” Halgren said.

It was the eleventh annual donation to the Literacy Council from Clarion Ford.

The dealership has supported the Literacy Council since the time of the late John Morris, the founder of the dealership and Kriebel’s father.

During the presentation, Kriebel stated her appreciation for the Literacy Council, saying it has helped the community tremendously.

“We’re always grateful to give support in our community,” said Kriebel. “These guys (the Literacy Council) work tirelessly as volunteers for people in the community.”

Since the Literacy Council does not receive any funding except for donations, Kriebel explained it was important for businesses like hers to support the crucial services the council provides.

Halgren expressed her gratitude to donors like Clarion Ford and the American Legion Post 66 for their support of the Literacy Council.

“Thank you again,” Halgren said. “Your contribution is greatly appreciated.”

Though the work it does is important, the Literacy Council is reliant upon the community for support.

“The CCLC depends entirely on donations and volunteer help,” said Halgren.
