Rimersburg Lions holding blood drive/eye screening

From staff reports

The Rimersburg Lions Club will be sponsoring their annual spring American Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from noon to 5 p.m. in the auxiliary gym at Union High School. The high school is located at 354 Baker Street in Rimersburg.

The Lions Club will be assisted with the endeavor by Union High School National Honor Society students who are under the supervision of Union High School teachers Anthony Beveridge and Tonya Stewart.

Individuals are asked to visit www.redcrossblood.org and then enter Lions Club or 16248 to schedule an appointment to donate blood for the May 7 Blood Drive. Individuals may also schedule an appointment to give blood by calling the American Red Cross at (800) 733-2767.

“The Rimersburg Lions Club is pleased to partner with the students of the National Honor Society at Union High School to provide this invaluable service to the American Red Cross. Giving blood helps save lives so please schedule an appointment to donate blood at our May 7th Blood Drive,” Rimersburg Lion and Project Leader Greg Mortimer proclaimed.

Rimersburg Lions are also preparing to provide eye screening for children attending the April 25 and April 26 Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-2025 school year at Sligo Elementary School. The eye screening detects five different eye defects in those kindergarten children participating in the kindergarten registration process. Those exhibiting eye problems are referred to the school nurse and eventually to an eye professional for consultation. This Lions Club sponsored program is also under the auspices of Lion Mortimer.
