Annual duathlon, 5K race and walk set

Western Pennsylvania Cares for Kids in cooperation with the Brookville YMCA benefitting the Children’s Advocacy Center will hold its 12th annual duathlon, 5K race, and community walk Saturday, July 17, at shelter 2 on Forest Road in Cook Forest State Park.

This center provides services to families and children who may have experienced physical or sexual abuse. These services are provided free to the families.

Day of race registration starts at 8 a.m. The duathlon consists of a 5K run through the forest, a 12-mile bike ride mainly on River Road and ends with a two-mile run. This can be done solo or with a team of two or three people. The 5K starts at 10 a.m. and is a 3.1 mile run through the forest mostly. The community walk is not timed but is a two-mile walk that starts immediately after the 5K run.

This event provides cash prizes for race winners. It also provides great raffles, including gift cards and tickets to theme parks and sporting events.

The first 50 racers to pre-register online will be entered into a drawing for $100 cash at the race.

Online registration is available at www.raceentry.com.

An awards ceremony and free lunch will follow the race. All proceeds benefit Western PA Cares for Kids Child Advocacy Center serving abused children and their families in Jefferson, Clarion, and Forest Counties.
