Woman identified in fatal Clarion Co. crash

From staff reports

A Crawford County woman who was killed when her vehicle collided with a horse Sunday night in Ashland Township, Clarion County, has been identified.

Clarion County coroner Terry Shaffer identified the woman as Beatrice E. King, 49, of Guys Mills.

Clarion state police said King was traveling west on Route 338 when a horse traveled into her vehicle’s lane of travel.

King’s vehicle struck the horse before traveling across the eastbound lane of travel, striking the eastern berm, police said.

The vehicle then continued to travel west across the eastern berm and back across the eastern and western lanes of travel before leaving the roadway and coming to a final rest in a ditch located next to the western lane of travel, police said.

Shaffer said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and that the horse had caved in part of the vehicle’s roof.

Randall Stom, the chief deputy coroner in Crawford County, pronounced King dead at the scene at 10:12 p.m. Sunday.
