Whitling defeats Miller in Clarion mayoral race

CLARION – Republican challenger Brett Whitling defeated William Miller on Tuesday to become the next mayor of the Clarion Borough.

Whitling trailed Miller for most of the evening, but overcame a single digit deficit to claim the win by 25 votes. Whitling tallied 371 votes to Miller’s 346.

Miller was appointed by Clarion Borough Council to replace Dan Parker, who resigned earlier this year to seek employment elsewhere. He is the former swimming coach at Clarion University and has served on numerous committees in Clarion.

Whitling is a husband, father and foster parent. He is a local small business owner for the past 10 years and a volunteer at Clarion Fire & Hose Co. 1. He is employed by Clarion County and is a former Clarion News reporter.

In Clarion, the mayor serves a two-year term.

East Brady Borough Council

Foxburg Borough Council

Four-year term (three to be elected): Judy Fleming, Democrat, 44.

Two-year term: Rebecca Ann Gates, Republican,46.

Hawthorn Borough Council

Four-year term (three to be elected): Jennifer Beamer, Republican, 82; Bryan Watkins, Republican, 74.

Knox Borough
