From staff reports
The Armstrong County Community Foundation scholarship application cycle is now open. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2022.
This year, the foundation is very pleased to offer two new scholarships for Redbank Valley High School seniors and graduates. The Alpha Lillstrom Cheng Democratic Process Engagement Scholarship fund is open to Redbank Valley High School seniors and graduates of Redbank High School only.
As rural America is often overlooked by political candidates and party platforms, this scholarship is intended to provide financial support to Redbank Valley High School graduates who are interested in giving back to their community and country through the democratic process.
Applicants attending a college, university, or graduate program studying anthropology, sociology, public policy, political science, journalism, or law are eligible.
The scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis requiring an essay as part of the application.
The second scholarship is the Shirey Scholarship. The Shirey Scholarship fund is open to high school seniors or graduates of an Armstrong County or Clarion County School and is accepted to study education, health/medical, math/engineering, social/human services, or technical school training.
The applicant must be attending a two or four-year college, university, community college, or other post-secondary institution in the U.S. including technical schools.
