Sign-ups underway for Clarion Camp Cadet program

From staff reports

Boys and girls ages 12 to 14 can sign up for the Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Camp Cadet program to be held July 28-Aug. 2 at Clarion University.

Conditions at the camp will be similar to those state police cadets experience in their training.

Campers are required to rise in the morning and participate in physical training. Military formation and military standards of speech are also required.

Campers will also hear speakers and see demonstrations from law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Secret Service and specialty units from the state police.

Speakers from the state Fish and Boat Commission and Game Commission will also give demonstrations, as well as local fire departments, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Pennsylvania National Guard and the county coroner.

Campers will also enjoy a canoe trip on the Clarion River in Cooks Forest.

The non-refundable fee to attend is $20 per person. The camp is funded through private donations.

Applications can be picked up at schools in Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean and northern Indiana counties.

Applications are also available at Troop C state police barracks or by contacting Ridgway trooper Bruce A. Morris at (814)772-2399 or bmorris@pa.gov.

Completed applications must be received no later than June 3. But when the camp is filled to capacity, no later applications will be processed.
