Local children will have the chance to spend part of their summer at a camp hosted by an award-winning robotics group.

The camp is part of a series of summer mini-camps sponsored by the Penn State Extension of Clarion and Venango counties.

The Electrotechs is a 4-H group based in Emlenton and made up of local students from sixth to 12th grades. The students will help with the robotics camp, which is set to take place from July 10-13 at the Crawford Center in Emlenton.

The Electrotechs have participated in robotics competitions since 2012, and earlier this year the club won a state competition in Pittsburgh. The group then received the Judge’s Award at a regional competition in St. Louis.

“We (Penn State Extension) have been doing it the last few years,” said Patty Anderson, an extension educator. “The response is always good.”

She added that the while all the camps typically fill up, the robotics camp fills its available spots the fastest.

“It’s because of word of mouth, and young kids starting to dabble in robotics,” said Anderson.

The series will also include other camps that focus on healthy habits, crafts, sports and science.

Anderson said each camp includes several workshops each day that feature crafts, outdoor activities and other subjects.

“We always have something for everyone,” said Anderson.

Information on registration for any of the camps can be found by going to extension.psu.edu.
