Perry Township Historical Society kicks off new season

From staff reports

The Perry Township Historical Society will kick off its 2023 season from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, at the old two-room school in West Freedom. New exhibits will feature genealogy information on over 225 township families, new photo displays, and old maps.

The highlight of the afternoon will be a “Meet and Greet with Miss Beadle” from Little House. There will be Civil War sentries, a poodle skirt teen and a World War II soldier. Visitors will receive a token of their visit.

Emphasis at this event will be on genealogy, with information on loan from Sally Jordan Reed on families of the township ranging from Aaron to Zilafro and everything in between.

“We are hoping this addition will bring more people to our school and museum. Anyone beginning their family genealogy or wanting to add to a current one should start with us,” said Reed who has dedicated a great deal of her life to historical work, particularly that of Perry Township. “You will be surprised what you can find here,” she added.

Anyone having genealogy information or photos to share should contact Reed at (814) 782-3918 or message her on her Facebook page.

In addition to the May 27th event, the school will be opened for browsing on the following dates and times: from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 7; from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 24; from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 8; from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, July 19; from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2; and from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 19.
