PennWest search panel has 3 presidential candidates

From staff reports

The Pennsylvania Western University presidential search committee has invited three presidential candidates to visit the institution’s three campuses, which includes PennWest-Clarion, next week.

The candidates are Jon Anderson, provost and vice president for academic affairs/professor at Southern Utah University; Philip Cavalier, interim chancellor at University of Tennessee at Martin; and Wade Weast, founding dean, College of the Arts at Georgia State University.

“The search committee worked diligently through a robust applicant pool to identify three highly qualified and experienced leaders who are poised to lead our institution forward,” committee chair Larry Maggi said in a PennWest news release.

The 26-member search committee is composed of representatives of PennWest’s student body, faculty, staff, alumni and other stakeholders, according to the release. Since beginning its work in January, the panel has gathered input from a wide range of university constituencies, reviewed 35 applications and conducted 11 interviews.

The campus visits, the release said, will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to meet each of the candidates and provide feedback.

Details on the campus visits and information on the candidates are posted on the presidential search web page: www.pennwest.edu/president-search.

After the campus visits, the search committee will meet to review the feedback and formalize its recommendation to the PennWest Council of Trustees, which will make the final determination of the two names submitted to the Board of Governors.

The anticipated start date for the new president is July 1.
