The Oil Region Astronomical Society will host a total solar eclipse event that is free and open to the public on April 8.
According to an ORAS news release, the observatory is not quite in the path of totality, but is close. From the site located on the border of Venango and Clarion counties, observers will see 99.6% of the sun covered by the moon.
ORAS will open its facilities to the public on April 7 and 8. There is no fee to participate, but ORAS said donations would be appreciated.
ORAS said groups should pre-register as soon as possible so it can better prepare. There is limited capacity at the observatory site and a limited number of eclipse glasses available.
Those who wish to stay overnight may do so, but an overnight fee would apply.
