North Clarion sets Veterans Day program

From staff reports

North Clarion School District will hold its annual Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in the high school gymnasium and at the Veterans Memorial Park located between the high school and elementary buildings. The officers from Junior Historians sponsor and preside over the assembly.

JH officers will also host a luncheon at noon for veterans in the high school library prior to the assembly.

At the assembly, students from the elementary and high school will participate by singing patriotic songs and reciting poems to honor the veterans. Lieutenant Cody Lauer, a 2009 graduate of North Clarion and former member of JH, is the keynote speaker. He is currently serving with the Army National Guard.

At the conclusion of the assembly, guests and students will gather outside at the North Clarion Veterans Park area for a special ceremony to honor deceased local veterans. A select ensemble from the high school chorus will sing at the park. The ceremony will include the laying of a wreath by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2145, a gun salute and posting of colors presented by members of the American Legion, Post 66, and the playing of taps by a North Clarion student.

The assembly is open to the public.
