New Knox plant likely to be running this summer

The new Modern Living Solutions plant in Knox should be running this summer barring any unforeseen problems.

“We are super excited about getting the business started,” said Rick Weston of Greystar, the parent company of Modern Living Solutions, during Tuesday’s Clarion County commissioners meeting.

“COVID threw a wrench into our timeline, and we are now underway trying to get things up and running and start operations this summer,” Weston added.

The new plant will occupy the former Knox Glass building in Knox.

Weston said Modern Living intends to start a manufacturing business to build pre-manufactured bathroom pods to supply the firm’s development and construction business.

Weston was at the commissioners meeting to ask the county to partner with Greystar on financial aspects of the project, and commissioners are expected to pass a resolution regarding those matters at their Feb. 9 meeting.

“This is a great project for the county,” commissioner Ted Tharan said.

Sight hike in CDBG money

In another matter at Tuesday’s meeting, county planning director Kristi Amato informed commissioners about some slight increases in 2020 Community Development Block Grant allocations in the county.

Amato said Clarion County’s allocation increased by $31 for a new total of $243,728, Clarion Borough’s amount increased by $19 to $105,610 and Clarion Township is getting $14 more for a total of $93,383.

Amato said the additional Clarion Borough funds will go toward the South Sixth Avenue reconstruction project and the Clarion Township funds will be used for the Fourth Avenue storm sewer project.

Amato said Clarion County has three eligible projects – Foxburg Area Water and Sewer Authority’s water meter replacement, Rimersburg Municipal Authority’s Chestnut Street water line project and Washington Township Municipal Authority’s sewer line lateral installation.

Amato said the Foxburg and Washington Township projects were fully funded, and commissioners unanimously approved her recommendation that the additional money be allocated to the Rimersburg project.
