CU Movies on Main is not the only outlet for entertainment on the Clarion University campus.  The University Theater for performing arts students will be home to the play “The Lonesome West” this weekend. The show is an Irish drama with themes of isolation and disillusionment and will be acted out and staged by Clarion’s finest artists.

“The Lonesome West” continues its run this Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Marwick-Boyd Little Theater and at 2 p.m. Sunday. The matinee showing may not be a good time to take the kids along though because “The Lonesome West” incorporates darker, more adult themes including profane language. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for students and free for those who bring their Clarion ID.eric2

In the Suites on Main North, Clarion University will be showing the comedy “Daddy’s Home” at 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. Nominated for Best Picture at the Oscar’s, “The Big Short” starts at 7 p.m. Friday and then airs again for encores at 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday for a matinee. The picture stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt in a drama revolving around the 2008 financial crisis.

If you are looking for some musical theatre to enlighten your Saturday evening, look no further than Franklin’s showcase of songstress Suzanne Laughlin in the Barrows-Civic Theatre from 7:30-10 p.m. Tickets for the show cost $20, and to make sure the money is well worth it, you can check out her album “Bad Boy Blues” that has been received with acclaim across the world.

While in Franklin, you can also check out some awesome food at Amazing Foods Café on 1327 Elk St. The sandwich shop and caterer has different lunch specials all the time. Most reviewers online have praised the heartwarming atmosphere and kind service of the employees.

A Venango County bridal show will be hosted from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Cranberry Mall. This event is a must-see for any couples currently planning their wedding. There are products to discuss, dishes to sample and a lot of fun to be had in the planning of your big day.
