Marienville Winterfest had something for everyone

The Marienville Winterfest has its roots in the snowmobile races held in that Forest County community 40 years ago. On Saturday, those days were remembered with a display of vintage snowmobiles.

The vintage sleds were just a part of the daylong activities at the Marienville Area Civic Association (MACA) building.

The activities included bingo games, a pie bake-off, a coloring contest, a snowflake-cutting contest, sky lanterns and a torchlight snowmobile ride.

There was a challenge chili cook-off between the Lions Clubs in Marienville and Tionesta.

“The Marienville Trailriders Club groomed the trails. The trails are in excellent condition,” said Roxanne Thornton, the treasurer for MACA.

Thornton said Winterfest has been a fixture on the calendar since 1973.

“The races started back in the 1960s, and they were held to raise money for the Marienville Medical Center,” said Thornton. “The Winterfest grew out of that.”
