Last county recycling of the year set for Sept. 21

The last county recycling day of 2019 will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at Clarion County Park in Paint Township.

County residents can bring the following items and they do not need to be separated: paper products such as paperboard, office paper and junk mail (envelopes, flyers, brochures, postcards, etc.), newspaper (remove bags, strings, and rubber bands), phone books, magazines and catalogs, cardboard, pizza boxes and paper bags (flatten cardboard and cut into pieces) milk and juice cartons, #1 and #2 plastic jugs and bottles, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7 household plastic containers, rigid plastic, steel, tin and aluminum cans, kitchen cookware, clear and colored glass.

They will also be accepting the following for recycling: batteries (automotive and rechargeable only), greeting cards (covers only with no writing on the back), washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves with no Freon will be accepted.

Scrap metal items will also be accepted.

Containers must be washed and sorted and lids removed. Items which are not emptied or cleaned will not be accepted.

Items not listed will be refused.

There will be fees for tires, electronics, household hazardous waste, light bulbs and regular batteries. This year’s fees are as follows:

Disposal of tires for cars and light trucks cost $4.50 each to recycle; tires from heavy trucks, trailers farm tractors and heavy equipment will cost $12 each, with some fees subject to change.

No wheels or rims will be accepted.

Disposal of all tube or CRT televisions and monitors will cost 60 cents per pound.

Disposal of all non-CRT devices and other electronics will cost 40 cents per pound.

All other electronics include: desktop and laptop computers; desk printers, scanner, fax, copier and mouse; speakers, keyboard, drives, etc.; stereo CD, DVD, BluRay, VCR, tape players, etc.; CDs, DVDs, BluRay discs, cassette and 8-track tapes; microwave oven; cell phone or telephones; console television; and non-CRT televisions and monitors.

Disposal of oil base or latex paint will cost 50 cents per pound

Disposal of all household hazardous waste will cost $1 per pound. These items include: bleach, household cleaning products; acid household cleaning products (bases); paint, stain, thinner and finishes; gas, diesel, kerosene and additives; wood or metal cleaners and polishes; pesticides, herbicides, fungicides; adhesives and glue; aerosols; car wax and polish; antifreeze; oil; and pool and spa chemicals.

Disposal of all universal waste will cost 75 cents per pound. These items include: common batteries (alkaline and zinc-carbon); lantern batteries; button cells and reactive; incandescent, compacts and fluorescent bulbs; HID, sodium and mercury vapor lamps; spot lamps; straight U-shape; and neon or UV lamps.

Disposal of small devices containing Freon will cost 70 cents per pound.

Disposal of small or large propane tanks will cost $8 each.
