Knox woman accused of assaulting OC officer

From staff reports

A Knox woman is facing charges after she allegedly assaulted an Oil City patrolman outside a West Third Street home around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Matthew Kirtland’s office said Oil City police responded to the 100 block of West Third Street after receiving a report that someone was stealing items from a home in the area.

Upon arrival, police met with Gayle Raybuck, 49, who had apparently been taking items from the residence without the homeowner’s approval, police said.

Police observed the items in Raybuck’s vehicle and advised she was not to leave the property until officers confirmed the items, the complaint said.

Raybuck immediately became aggravated and approached patrolman Brandon Rosenberger in the middle of the street. She was advised to back away from Rosenberger but instead shoved him in the chest and “chest bumped” him, the complaint said.

Raybuck was placed under arrest for aggravated assault on a police officer, the complaint said.

Police later found jewelry in Raybuck’s possession that had been reported stolen by the owner of the home. Raybuck had taken four rings and a necklace, the complaint said.

Raybuck is facing a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. She is also facing summary counts of harassment and disorderly conduct.

She was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
