Fall hiking weekend scheduled Oct. 14-16

EMLENTON — Keystone Trails Association’s annual fall hiking weekend will be held from Friday, Oct. 14, to Sunday, Oct. 16, at Whitehall Camp and Conference Center, Emlenton, Clarion County.  Experienced leaders from the Butler and Clarion chapters of the North Country Trail Association and the Butler Outdoor Club will guide hikes all three days.  Hike leaders will share their favorite trails with registered participants.  The guided hikes offer an opportunity for participants to experience new and unfamiliar territory, and learn about different flora and fauna.  KTA executive director Joe Neville said, “There really is something for everyone at KTA’s Fall Hiking Weekend.  We offer guided hikes ranging in length from one to 12 miles, so hikers of all levels of ability and fitness can participate.” Participants may also participate in many other non-hiking activities such as biking, a glass blowing demonstration, Segway tours, yoga, canoeing/kayaking, a wiener roast and more.  The full hike and activity schedule is available online at www.kta-hike.org.  “KTA’s Fall Hiking Weekend offers a fantastic opportunity for new hikers to learn more about proper gear and trail etiquette, and for seasoned hikers to explore different trails.  We especially welcome the participation of young people at this event; our family-friendly weekends are fun for nature-lovers of all ages,” KTA president Wanda Shirk said.  The registration fee for the weekend starts at $35; children under age 18 are free.  More information about the weekend, and advance registration, is available online at www.kta-hike.org.
