Ex-Jefferson County deputy accused of embezzlement

From staff reports

The former mayor of Sykesville Borough in Jefferson County has been arrested on charges of embezzlement while he was employed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

Kyle Pisarcik, 24, of Sykesville, is accused of stealing funds intended for the Jefferson County K-9 program.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office filed a felony charge of theft by deception and a misdemeanor count of forgery.

In 2017, Pisarcik became a K-9 handler and was in charge of purchasing supplies for care and training, according to the complaint.

On Aug. 2, 2018, the complaint said, Sheriff Karl Gotwald discovered some of the supporting documents provided by Pisarcik weren’t sufficient to reconcile an account.

The complaint said Pisarcik informed Gotwald he had written the checks to himself without making any purchases.

The complaint said Pisarcik resigned and repaid the money for two fraudulent purchases and other purchases that he made via the bank checking account, which totaled $4,865.75.

That money was thought to be all that was owed by Pisarcik to the sheriff’s department, according to the complaint.

However, the complaint said, further investigation determined Pisarcik owes $5,978.44 to the sheriff’s department.

Pisarcik was arraigned in front of District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak on Wednesday. He remains free on $30,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Thursday at 2:45 p.m. before Bazylak.
