Elmo Bridge project slated to start May 3

From staff reports

Construction work on the Elmo Bridge along Route 322 in Ashland Township, Clarion County, will begin Monday, May 3.

This project includes the replacement of the existing structure carrying Route 322 over a tributary of Canoe Creek. It also includes paving, drainage, guide rail and other miscellaneous construction.

Traffic along Route 322 will be affected from about 2.6 miles east of the intersection of routes 322 and 338, and 1.1 miles west of the intersection of routes 322 and 4073.

A temporary traffic signal will be installed Monday, May 17, to reduce Route 322 to one lane of traffic throughout the construction project.

Horizon Construction Group of Sandy Lake is completing this $717,500 project, which is estimated to continue through the fall.

Smaller bridge projects in the area will start Monday, including work on the Walls Memorial Bridge, which carries Route 322 over the Clarion River in Clarion Township.

The Benjamin Franklin Highway bridge in Butler also will be repaired, starting Monday.

These two projects include minor deck repairs and other miscellaneous construction to improve the skid resistance on both bridge structures.

Traffic along Route 322 will be affected about 1.5 miles northwest of Clarion. There will be short-term flagging to help traffic flow through the area from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Tuesday.

For the Butler project, there will be long-term traffic restrictions along approximately 5 miles of Route 422 northwest of Butler.

The cost of the two bridge projects is $821,876 and the work will be done by Mekis Construction Corp. of Fenelton. The projects will continue through the summer.
