An adopted dog’s legacy will live on in the form of a pavilion and an adjoining covered kennel area at Tri-County Animal Rescue Center in Shippenville.

David and Claudia Bonacci, of Smicksburg, donated all the funds for the added amenity at the Shippenville center, according to Cindy Bonner, Tri-County treasurer and dog volunteer.

The couple funded the project in memory of a dog they adopted from the shelter.

The canine came to Tri-County on Aug. 28, 2013, and was dubbed “Sally” by the center.

“She was one of 14 dogs surrendered by a lady who knew she was overwhelmed and could not care for all those dogs,” Bonner said.

On Dec. 17, 2013, “Sally” became Posey and went home with the Bonaccis, Bonner said.

“It was Posey’s best Christmas gift as she became part of their family,” she said. “Unfortunately, Posey’s time with the Bonaccis was only a couple years as her life was cut short when she lost her battle with cancer on April 27, 2016.”

In Posey’s honor, the Bonaccis donated all the funds for the pavilion and covered kennel area, which Tri-County will call “Posey’s Pavilion.”

“David and Claudia have been wonderful supporters of Tri-County,” Bonner said.

A dedication ceremony for the pavilion and fenced-in area is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Shippenville shelter. It will include refreshments and the unveiling of the name plaque. The ceremony is open to the public.

The shelter is located at 9562 Route 322 in Shippenville.
