Conference on opioid epidemic planned

Registrations are being accepted for a conference focusing on the opioid epidemic. The Mu Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society will hold the Communities in Crisis: PA Opioid Epidemic Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Clarion University. The conference is also sponsored by the Pennsylvania Emergency Nursing Association.

Registration costs range from $25 to $85.

Topics include: History of opioid use and misuse; PAs response to the opioid epidemic; MAT options; Faith-based treatment options; challenges for Rural PA; Response opportunities for rural communities; Evidence-based education and practices; Addiction as a chronic disease; and the stigma of addiction facing clients and families.

Featured speakers include: Dr. Rachel Levine, State Sen. Gene Yaw, Barry Denk; Dr. Bradley Miller, Amanda Cope, Dr. Grace McGorrian, Katie Musgrove, Kate Baumgardner, Alex Jennings, Joel Jakubowski and Mike Krakick.
