Clarion Rotary adds new scholarship

From staff reports

The Clarion Rotary Club has added a sixth scholarship opportunity for Clarion County high school seniors.

The new Orville H. Lerch 4-H scholarship is worth $1,000. It is named in honor of Lerch, who was a Clarion Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow.

Lerch died in 2020.

As a boy growing up on the family farm in Sligo, Lerch found his entrepreneurial spirit when he participated showing livestock at 4-H events.

Lerch’s 4-H experience led to his founding of many new common parts of the Clarion community through his 85 years. These include an ice cream shop and canoe rental business in Cook Forest, the Clarion County Career Center, the new Clarion Hospital, and Liberty Towers.
