Clarion Elementary students put PASR grant to good use

From staff reports

Every year, the Clarion County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees announces a grant opportunity for Clarion County school districts.

The grant, organized by the chapter’s educational support committee that includes Barb Speer, Kathy Dinger, Nancy Keen and Sue Zamzow, helps fund projects in classrooms throughout the county.

This year, the grant was used for the completion of projects at Clarion Area Elementary School.

As part of a unit designed around digital media, Clarion Area Elementary students in grades 5 and 6 developed an understanding of national and global issues through the creation of public service announcements in their STEAM special.

Each group of students chose a topic of interest and researched the topic, then created a PSA to spread awareness about the topic. The microphones used for this project were funded by the grant.

These projects, along with others in grades K through six, helped students develop their 21st century skills and gave them insight into careers within the digital media space.

The grant was awarded to Clarion Area School District after a request made by K-6 STEAM teacher Christin McNeal.
