Canoe Creek Bridges project to begin soon

From staff reports

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced plans to begin pre-construction work of the Interstate 80 Canoe Creek Bridges project in Clarion County in early November.

PennDOT and Bridging Pennsylvania Developers I, in a news release, said the work is in preparation for the start of demolition and construction realignment on 2.5 miles of eastbound and westbound I-80, between exit 53 and the weigh station west of Huckleberry Ridge, as well as replacing the bridges.

On Thursday, construction contractor Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors and major bridge subcontractor, Kokosing Construction Co., will begin the first of four construction stages, with overall project completion anticipated in 2028.

PennDOT said motorists can expect two lanes of traffic to be maintained in both directions at all times with the exception of limited lane closures, which will occur during off-peak hours.

Beginning Thursday, motorists can expect short-term nightly left-lane closures to facilitate the installation of temporary pavement through Nov. 16, with long-term median shoulder closures continuing through Oct. 1, 2025.

The new bridges will replace the older pair of Interstate 80 bridges crossing Canoe Creek and will be wide enough to accommodate six lanes of traffic, (three in each direction), if required.

Construction will continue for about three years. The cost of the project is expected to be between $95 million and $100 million.
