Work underway on Clarion County 911 tower in Leeper

A gap in Clarion County’s 911 network will soon be closed as a new tower in the system is being erected in Leeper.

The construction of the 195-foot tall tower was delayed for several weeks when steel for the project was delayed.

Tower Service Unlimited is building the tower and a concrete shelter at the Leeper communications site. The total cost of the project is $313,767.

The county used a portion of its $3 million CARES Act grant for the construction of the tower. The funds must be expended by the end of the year.

The new tower is located behind the post office in Leeper.

The county is making some other changes to the communications system.

An agreement has been reached with MCM Consulting Group for technology, assessment, design, acquisition, implementation, verification, training and project management for the new county 911 facility at the old Sorce building in Paint Township. That contract is for $110,688.90.

The East Brady tower will be moved to the East Brady overlook. The .06-acre site will cost the county $50 per month.

And the county entered into a five-year lease with Darl E. and Gina George for the New Bethlehem tower site. The .23 acre site will cost the county $500 per month, and the county has the option to purchase the site at the end of the lease.

The county currently owns a tower in St. Petersburg and rents tower space at Trinity Point and on the Knox water tower.
