The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission has been busy stocking area waterways in anticipation of the first day of trout season.
Statewide, more than 4.5 million brook, brown, rainbow and golden rainbow (palomino) trout will be added to lakes and streams by the commission and hundreds of volunteers.
In Venango County, about 2,000 pounds of trout, or about 3,500 fish, were put into Oil Creek just on Monday alone. The waterway also had been stocked more than a week ago. Similar drops have taken place almost daily at other area waterways since the beginning of March.
The season kicks off April 15 at 8 a.m. statewide, but parts of southeastern Pennsylvania opened for the season over the weekend.
According to the Fish & Boat Commission website, trout season already has begun in the following counties: Adams, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill and York.
The season runs through Labor Day.
