Toomey tours Brookville plant as he swings through region

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey stopped in Brookville on Tuesday to tour the Miller Fabrication Solutions facility.

During his visit, the Republican senator also commented on several issues ranging from the timber industry, a new stimulus package and violence in American cities.

“What they do at Miller’s is amazing,” said Toomey after touring the plant. “This is a company that has been adapting to the circumstances and they were able to take advantage of the new provisions in our tax reform. My impression is that their prospects for the future look quite bright.”

Toomey said he hopes the economic recovery can continue.

“I think our ability to deal with the coronavirus is getting better and better and I am hoping for a full economic recovery as soon as possible. This was a tough year for most Pennsylvania businesses,” he said.

Miller Fabrication Solutions is a metal fabricator providing manufacturing and value-added solutions for innovative original equipment.

The company was able to expand its service capabilities by purchasing new equipment. This expansion, driven by the equipment purchases, allowed Miller to preserve eight jobs for individuals who operate the machinery, as well as ancillary positions in engineering and laser operations, among other departments.

“We certainly appreciate the senator visiting with us and taking an interest in the needs of our company,” Miller Fabrication president Eric Miller said.

“Restoring our economy is extremely important and hopefully we are moving in that direction,” Toomey said. “We have engaged with the hardwood industry to address some of the trade problems we are having.”

Toomey also addressed the violence that is occurring in some American cities.

“The freedom to peacefully protest and to petition government officials is protected in our Constitution. Violence is not. It is unacceptable,” Toomey said. “Rioting and looting are completely unacceptable. Municipal government that tolerates that is completely abrogating their responsibility to their own people and there should be no tolerance for it. I continue to call on public officials and mayors to do their job.”

“What is happening in Kenosha is unacceptable,” he said. “The president is within his rights to go there and remind the people that he will continue to stand ready to provide federal resources to the extent needed to make sure people can live in safety.”

He also reflected his “frustration” with a second stimulus package and laid the blame on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats.

Toomey then left Brookville for a stop at DuBois Regional Airport.
