PennDOT virtually displaying plans for Clarion River arch preservation project

From staff reports

PennDOT is inviting the public to view plans regarding the bridge preservation project of the existing structure carrying Route 322 over the Clarion River in Clarion and Paint Townships in Clarion County.

The purpose of the virtual plans display for the bridge project is to share preliminary information on the project’s status, schedule and design.

PennDOT representatives and design consultants will be available to answer questions.

Construction of the project is anticipated for summer 2025 and will maintain traffic using a single lane controlled by temporary signals.

Two single-day detours will be required for bearing replacement on the bridge.

PennDOT said the bridge requires bearing replacements, pier bent repairs, other steel repairs and spot painting to increase the service life of the existing bridge.

The posted speed limit will be 45 miles per hour during construction. No changes to the existing curb-to-curb width are expected.

Traffic will be maintained via single lane using temporary signals. There will be minimal utility impacts and no right-of-way takes.

PennDOT said a detour of Route 322 is required for the bridge jacking operations. Those operations will take place for one day and will be required two times — once at the beginning of the project and once at the end.

The detour route is Route 322 to Route 66 to Interstate 80 to Route 68. The detour route will traverse through Paint Township, Clarion Township and Clarion Borough.

The average daily traffic over the bridges is 8,228 vehicles.

The estimated construction cost is about $1 million.

The project is in the final stages of preliminary design, and the tentative advertisement date to contractors for bidding is June 2024.

An online presentation of the project, which outlines and explains the proposed plans and schedule for the project, is available until Jan. 9.

To access the web page, visit www.PennDOT.gov/District10, click on the public meetings link under the district links heading, pick the Clarion County box, and then choose Clarion River Arch Project tile.

The project manager is Kenneth Campbell.
