Clarion library summer reading program: ‘A Universe of Stories’

Readers of all ages will explore all things space this summer as The Clarion Free Library presents “A Universe of Stories” during its summer library program.

Activities will include stories, space-related crafts, guest storytellers and presenters, science and engineering experiments, a readers’ theater, a field trip, and more.

The 2019 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story times, a reading club, and more.

Families are invited to our family nights. Pick up a calendar at the library.

Registration for “A Universe of Stories” begins on June 13 at our kick-off event. All programs are free of charge.

It’s time to join the Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts will be holding a sign up night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at Clarion County Park Pavilion 3, 41 Clarion County Park in Shippenville.

Join the Girl Scouts to see what it’s like to be a Girl Scout and experience a variety of fun Girl Scout activities.

The age range for this event is for children pre-kindergarten to adult and no pre-registration is required.

Clarion Area Girl Scouts need adult leaders for next year in all age levels.

Youth Field Day registration open June 3

Clarion County Youth Field Day will be held July 27 at Camp Coffman in Oil City.

Kids who are 8 to 12 years old as of July 27 are eligible to participate and 450 spots are available. Shooting, fishing, archery and many other hunting and outdoor stations are part of the daylong event.

Children need to be accompanied by a parent or adult. Lunch is provided. Registration for the event will begin promptly at 5 p.m. June 3 via the PA Game Commission website.

Interested parents can find the link on the Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth Facebook page or by visiting the Game Commission website. Any questions regarding the event can be directed to youthfieldday@gmail.com.

CCSFY is also looking for T-shirt sponsorships. The names of General Sponsors those who sponsor $150 will be printed on the back of the T-shirt. Major Sponsors $500 will be added to the front of the shirt. Please contact Ian Fulton at (814) 221-1496 if you wish to sponsor shirts.

Clarion River Days set for June 8 and 9

Clarion County Broadcasting is hosting the second annual Clarion River Days being held at 11 a.m. on June 8 and 9 at the Toby boat launch in Clarion.

Come to this free community event to celebrate Pennsylvania’s 2019 River of the Year.

The event features, kayak demos with Performance Kayak of Brookville, boat rides, a climbing wall and some great vendors.

For musical entertainment there will be live music happening all weekend with local acts like The Grande Ole Radio, The Keep it Downs, Samantha Sears, and Richard and Jessie Eustice.

For the animal lover in you, come learn from the experts at Exotic Adventures and meet rescued animals from all over the world both days from 1 to 4 p.m.

Local food vendors from Zack’s and Smokey B’s BBQ will tantalize your taste buds as you take in the beautiful river views.

Enjoy yourself with free transportation to and from the event with parking areas located at Clarion University’s Suites on Main and the downtown parking lot on Liberty Street in Clarion. Attendees should be on the look-out for local watering holes as they travel the bus route to Clarion River Days.
