North Clarion schools to honor veterans Thursday

From staff reports

North Clarion School District will hold its annual Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. Thursday in the high school gymnasium and at Veterans Memorial Park located between the high school and elementary buildings.

The Junior Historians officers will sponsor and preside over the assembly. Rodney Griebel, a North Clarion alumni and veteran, will be the keynote speaker.

Students from the elementary and high schools will sing patriotic songs and recite poems to honor veterans.

At the conclusion of the assembly, guests and students will gather outside at the North Clarion Veterans Park area for a special ceremony to honor deceased local veterans.

The ceremony will also include the laying of a wreath by members of VFW Post 2145, a gun salute and posting of colors presented by members of American Legion Post 66, and the playing of “Taps” by a North Clarion student.

The North Clarion Veterans Memorial was built and dedicated in 2001, making this the 20th anniversary of the memorial. It contains bricks with names inscribed on them of local deceased veterans.

The bricks are arranged according to their respective eras and wars.

Junior Historians officers will also host a luncheon for veterans at noon in the high school library prior to the assembly. The assembly is open to the public.
