Shannon Barrios, a Keystone High School alumna who assumed her new post Thursday, traveled the country and world before returning to her Clarion County roots.

She comes to the CCEDC with a background in marketing, a wealth of international business experience, and several years directing and overseeing social justice, relief, and development efforts in nations around the world.

Originally from Knox, Barrios returned to the area in 2011 after living in Mozambique, the seventh country in which she has lived.

“When I got back from Mozambique, I really wanted to invest in the local community,” she said. “I wanted to see the kinds of cultural development and economic expansion that I’ve witnessed in the developing world happening here, as well. I was interested to see how I could tap into my background to continue to invest in the area.”

In her role with the CCEDC, Barrios, who now resides in Emlenton, said she wants to utilize her vast international experience to bring a fresh perspective to the economic development efforts in Clarion County.

“It’s too soon to say specifically what my goals are yet, but I am looking forward to getting back in the working world in the area and meet the local business owners,” Barrios said.

She replaces Jamie Lefever, who held the position at CCEDC for the past five years.
