Keystone appoints interim superintendent

Keystone School Board restructured the district’s administration this week and appointed elementary school principal Mike McCormick as interim/acting superintendent.

McCormick will remain as elementary principal, and district special education director Kelli McNaughton was appointed assistant elementary principal. McNaughton will continue as special education director.

Both appointments were approved retroactively to April 1 and will run through the end of the school year on June 30.

McCormick replaces Patrick Gavin, who served as interim superintendent from Feb. 2 through March 30 following the resignation of Shawn Algoe, who left the district to pursue employment in the private sector.

The actions were approved unanimously with board members Greg Barrett and Trisha Dixon absent.

In another matter this week, the board denied a grievance filed by four unionized custodians following a 45-minute closed-door session.

The nature of the grievance wasn’t revealed.
