Indivisible We Rise coordinating events to celebrate Earth Day

A local citizens group known as Indivisible We Rise – West Central PA is coordinating a series of events to celebrate Earth Day.

riseThe Earth Day celebration will be held at the Clarion Free Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.

The event will feature science activities, displays, art activities, story telling and music and will be free to the public.

A free showing of the film “Awake, a Dream from Standing Rock” will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Suites on Main North along Route 322 on the Clarion University campus.

The film is a 2017 Tribeca award winning documentary to Josh Fox, the producer of “Gasland.”

The film focuses on how the Standing Rock Sioux tribe captured the world’s attention through peaceful resistance. The film will be followed by a panel discussion.

Indivisible We Rise will also be sponsoring a Clean-Up Day on the North Country Trail on April 30. People who are interested in volunteering should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the trailhead off Route 322 at River Hill. Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring water to drink.

All volunteers will receive lunch and certificates of appreciation for their participation.

The series of events was made possible when a group representing Indivisible We Rise visited the Clarion County Commissioners. They presented a proclamation asking the county to officially recognize Earth Day 2017.

Also announced in the proclamation was the upcoming county recycling days. Those days are June 3 and Sept. 16, 2017.
