To help improve access and safety to the new Scenic Rivers-Clarion County YMCA in Monroe Township, the state has approved a grant worth nearly $500,000 to make it easier for pedestrians, cyclists, bus riders and vehicle traffic to travel to the facility.
“This sizable state grant will make it easier for people who don’t have a vehicle to access the many programs, services and amenities at the new facility,” said state Rep. Donna Oberlander of Clarion, who has helped secure more than $4 million in state funding for the project.
Part of the grant will also seek to improve safety to and from the site.
The grant totals $498,438 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Program within the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Specifically, the proposed new access road will connect BP Drive and Mayfield Road, eliminating an unsafe traffic pattern, and allowing for direct access to the YMCA.
The total project cost is $1.14 million.
