Gallery to feature works of painter, woodworker

FOXBURG — Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts and the Red Brick Gallery will host an exhibition showcasing the work of painter Jason Floyd Lewis and woodworker Mark DeWalt from Friday, Aug. 26, to Sunday, Oct. 2.  Meet the artist receptions will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.  Saturday, Aug. 27, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the gallery in Foxburg.  The display includes landscapes by Jason Floyd Lewis which depict the beauty of western Pennsylvania and Mark DeWalt’s furniture and sculptures which use wood from native forests and salvaged artifacts.  Lewis and DeWalt are well known to area residents.  Lewis is a charter artist/member of the Red Brick Gallery Cooperative.  His oil landscapes range in size from miniatures to large canvases.  His also has landscapes in graphite and colored pencil.  Guest artist Mark DeWalt will be presenting his woodworking art for the first time in Foxburg.  His creations range from wood vases fashioned from trees in Pennsylvania to rustic furniture crafted from barn siding, fence posts, flywheels and harness parts.  DeWalt is the pianist, composer and leader of CATRO, the Pittsburgh Jazz band.  DeWalt and CATRO members will perform in two open house receptions to open and close the exhibition.  On Saturday, Aug. 27, DeWalt and a bassist will perform in the second floor gallery during a meet the artist opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m.  On Saturday, Oct. 1, CATRO will perform in the Red Brick Gallery rear garden from 4 to 7 p.m., following ARCA’s tenth anniversary Wurlitzer Organ concert in Lincoln Hall at 2 p.m. The organ concert will be performed by celebrated theater organist David Wickerham.  Artist Jason Floyd Lewis grew up in Clarion and currently resides there.  He received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Columbus College of Art and Design, where he studied drawing and painting.  He went on to earn a master’s degree in drawing at Bowling Green State University.  At home in Clarion, Lewis shares studio space with his wife, Amanda.  Lewis’s artwork represents the landscape as he has observed it.  His paintings and drawings represent real places, most of them near his home in western Pennsylvania.  Mark DeWalt is a fourth generation woodworker.  He had always lived in a rural setting.  He said he finds great inspiration in the natural and historic forms surrounding him.  He enjoys blending materials from diverse origins to create something new, while incorporating time-tested techniques.  Local forests, salvaged artifacts and reclaimed lumber provide the raw materials for his work.  In addition to custom pieces, DeWalt also does restoration work is also done.  DeWalt continues the restoration legacy established by his father, grandfather and brother.  The Red Brick Gallery is located at 17 Main St., Foxburg.  Gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m.  Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Saturdays and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.  Additional information is available at additional information www.alleghenyriverstone.org.
