Forest landowner conference scheduled Feb. 18 in Clarion

CLARION – The Clarion Forest Landowner Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Clarion University Grunenwald Science and Technology Center located along Greenville Avenue in Clarion.

The conference is hosted by the Penn State Extension, in partnership with DCNR Bureau of Forestry, The Woodland Owners of the Clarion and Allegheny Valley and the Clarion County Forest Stewardship Committee.

The cost is $25 per person if registered by Monday, Feb. 6. After that date, the price is $30 per person. Students may attend the conference for $10. The fee includes lunch, refreshments and door prizes.

There will be door prizes given away at the end of the event.

Pre-registration is required and deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 10.

Participants can register online by going at http://extension.psu.edu/forest-landowner-conferences and choosing the Clarion location. The complete agenda, registration details and other information can be found at the website.

The conference will help landowners learn how to properly manage their forests.

 This year’s conference will have seven different sessions.

Topics include: Benefits of Young Forests for Wildlife which includes a talk specifically about grouse and woodcock, Tips for a More Valuable and Profitable Family Forest, Successful Tree Planting, Decline of Black Cherry, Return of the American Chestnut and Things to Know When Getting Your Land Surveyed.

Speakers include people from DCNR Bureau of Forestry, Pennsylvania Game Commission, U.S.D.A. Forest Service, American Chestnut Foundation and more.
