Forest County sets Shop With a Cop day

From staff reports

The Forest County Sheriff’s Department will conduct its seventh annual Shop With a Cop program Sunday, Dec. 15.

The program joins underprivileged children with law enforcement officials who help children spend donated money on Christmas gifts.

Sheriff Robert L. Wolfgang said the program helps break down barriers between the community and law enforcement with the goal of building better relationships between the two.

A bus along with participating deputies will pick up the children at a designated location and transport them to the Clarion Walmart, where they will begin their shopping experience.

Each child will have a specific allowance for spending.

The group will then meet for dinner before returning home.

Last year, donations to the program totaled $9,800, which was used to help 55 children and 42 families buy gifts and food for a Christmas meal.

People who wish to donate to this year’s program may call (814) 755-3541 for details.
