Forest County commissioners approve various expenses

Forest County commissioners approved more than $200,000 in various bills during their bimonthly meeting on Thursday morning.

Board Chairman Bob Snyder and fellow commissioners Norm Wimer and Basil Huffman approved: $105,023.95 for general fund expenses, $54,238.54 for general fund payroll, $4,596.72 for transportation expenses, $12,962.97 for transportation payroll, $15,585.28 for children and youth expenses and $11,941.19 for children and youth payroll.

The board approved several departmental requests, including $455 to the Sheriff’s Office to cover the cost of routine maintenance to the department’s boat. In May, the boat was found to be in need of repairs as it was being prepared to be taken out cleanup patrols.

“We helped Corps of Engineers on their annual cleanup,” Sheriff Robert Wolfgang said. “We take the probation kids out there on the lake to help out.”

The Sheriff’s Office also has been approved to order ammunition for next year’s qualifications at a cost of approximately $641.94 from Hickory Creek and Front Site Firearms.

In other business

– The board approved the probation department sending Steve Barnett and Mark Rhoads to attend the Pennsylvania Drug Court Professionals Conference in November at a cost of $400.

The probation department will also send Kim Wolfe to State College on June 18 for training of juvenile justice professionals, with the county reimbursing meals and mileage as well as registration of $120 and lodging at $102.

– The county transportation director was given the go-ahead to hire a cleaning person for approximately five hours per week.

– The board accepted the resignation of Chip Bickel, administrative assistant in the transportation department, effective June 18.

– The board approved the lease agreement between Forest County and Sherman Enterprises for Children and Youth Services office space, effective July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2023, in the amount of $2,731.04 per month.

– The board approved a resolution to recognize the staff of the Forest County Children and Youth Agency for serving the children of Forest County who are at risk of abuse and neglect.

The next meeting of the board of commissioners, which meets on the first and third Thursday of every month, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, in the law library of the Forest County Courthouse, 526 Elm St., Tionesta.
