Forest commissioners OK hiring practice change

Forest County commissioners approved a change to the county’s hiring practices at their brief meeting Wednesday.

The pay rate for potential new employees may be raised by 1% for each year of related previous experience for an up to 5% increase in the starting salary for a new employee.

Commissioner Bob Snyder said that in the past there was no cap for how many years of previous experience could be considered, so someone with many years of previous experience might be hired at a starting pay exceeding what other county employees doing the same job for several years were making.

The new language approved also allows for an up to 5% increase in the starting pay rate for a new employee for job relevant education or credentials.

The commissioners on Wednesday also approved a resolution to advertise five county owned vehicles for bid.
