Cook Forest Programs

COOK FOREST STATE PARK — A fire tower historical tour will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cook Forest State Park.  Attendees should taken their binoculars to the Fire Tower for an historical tour of Fire Tower No. 9 conducted by park volunteers Kelley and Al Bilotto.  The tower will be open from 1 to 3 p.m.  A program titled ‘Foraging Wild Edible Plants & Mushrooms’ will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Adam Haritan from learnyourland.com and foragingpittsburgh.com will lead an interpretive walk through Cook Forest, where attendees will learn wild plant and mushroom identification, nutritional benefits of wild foods, harvesting methods, drying and storing methods, medicine making and much more.  The program begins at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.  A virtual tour of Cook Forest will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ridge Camp park amphitheater.  Those attending should take chairs and blankets for seating.  The virtual tour will lead attendees through the old growth forests and down the Clarion River.  More information about these activities is available by calling (814) 744-8407.
