Clarion man hurt in crash

A single-vehicle accident Wednesday in Rockland Township sent a Clarion man to a local hospital.

Franklin state police said a Chevrolet Impala LT driven by Vanessa Richburg, 25, of Franklin was traveling west on Route 322 near the intersection with Route 38 at about 6:12 p.m. when it gained speed to pass a truck.

After passing the truck, Richburg tried to apply her brakes, but they did not respond and the rear end of the vehicle started to slide out to the side, police said.

Each correction Richburg attempted to make made the movements worse, eventually causing the car to fishtail, police said.

The vehicle went through the east bound lane, hit a culvert in a driveway and came to final rest striking a tree in a yard, police said.

The airbag for the driver’s side was deployed, and both Richburg and the passenger – Jeremy Krouse, 32, of Clarion – were wearing their seat belts, police said.

Krouse was taken to UPMC Northwest by Community Ambulance Service for unspecified injuries.

Richburg wasn’t injured.

Rockland volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.
